Starting a Small Home Business Without Money!

ricardog started this conversation

For 5 years, I've been helping other start their home based business without breaking the bank or getting into deep debt. I'm a small business consultant and I have been working with small business owner for more than 5 years. Lot's of times I have found that people have the resources but they don't see it. There only excited of the idea but have no way of going about it. Let me help you in getting your creative juices started. I will give you three quick clues that are very helpful.

1. Make a list of what you need for your business. Be specific, go from writing pens to copier to how big you want your office. Don't cheat yourself. If you see a ticket item that you can't afford. Still put it on your list.

2. Have your list in hand and start looking around your apartment or house of some of these items on your list. I have found that 60% of what you need is in your home or apartment, right now. To start your business. Remember businesses grow and once money start flowing in. You will be able to buy bigger and better things.

3. Start small and go big. Everyone want to start there business at the top instead of holding steady and making it grow. Coca-a-Cola did not start big, Wal-mart did not start big, McDonald's did not start big. So keep that in mind.

A good business start small and goes big.

Always, always listen to yourself. You are more smarter than you give yourself credit. You are your business. Not your business is not you.

Good Job Jewel by keeping the bills going. It will break. The thing you need to do is, don't talk about the negative things right up front. But also don't lie to them. Let them ask you those types questions. Talk postive, talk very positve. People don't want to work in a place that the boss is talking negative right away. Think about that.

Put at ad on Craigslist, that is free. Go to your local beatuy school and hire someone fresh out of school and licensed, tell them a deal.

Creat your own job fair, advertise that. You don't have to spend so much money on that. Go to your local unemployment office and tell them you need help. Talk to your customers, tell them you are looking for some help. I sure they know someone who is looking for a job.

I think that is so funny, people are saying there is no jobs out there... but I keep telling people that they are.

And first and last, keep the faith. Tell god to send you help and he will....

Hello, I own a hair salon and im having a hard time finding any help. I want to rent a chair or hire a commission person, but no one seems to have a following and don't want to market themselfs. I told them that their isn't a bus that will drop off a bus load of clients they would have to get out their and pass out flyers or what ever. It is getting to me now. I have to work extra hard in order to pay my bills. I don't want to give up because I feel like as long as I'm still able to pay my bills thing will change. I want your feed back. Jewel..

Good Idea, everyone is into health these days. Even tho you don't have money to start your company at this time. Start writing a business plan. Put your plan together right now that the idea is fresh and it does not cost nothing to do so.

By doing this, it gives you time to plan, look and see what you need to do. Sometimes a plan will give you an idea to start looking for starter money. May be you just need $1,000.00 to start but that money impossible right now. When your plan comes together, you can start seeing the money and how to find it. Without even thinking about it, it comes into your pocket....

So put the plan together and get started on your business. It does work...

Let me know if you need more help.

Thank you for your post.  It is true, most of the stuff needed is right at your finger tips.

I too have just started a small business on the internet.

If you wouldn't mind checking it out and letting me know what you think.

I love dogs and anything to do with dogs, so I thought this would be a perfect niche for me.  I started it back in April of this year.   I am still adding product as I find it.

I did my research and was able to get the ecommerce website for free, and I use Google Checkout as my payment processor.

I am making a few sales, but nothing of huge consequence.  But it is my dream, and I will keep at it.

I guess what is most important here, you never know what you can do till you try it.

Reply to Ricardog--I read your blog and thankyou, I recently started a home based business and your right, once I really started checking out everything I've had in my home sometimes for years I found that I really did have probably%80 of of all my base necessities, it's amazing the stuff I found that I already had  that was on my (to purchase) list. Keep those good ideas coming. What with sky high gas prices, childcare costs and downsizing more and more people are using their homes for small startup business'. My dining room is now my office and my kitchen is the print room (it was the only place I could put my printer) and my desk is part of my dining room table, but it works well for me now. Thanks for the tips.  sheshe030

Good article. I always recommend tapping into your social network, especially family and friends, to get money and resources to start a business.

40billion.com helps entrepreneurs raise money for startups through friends and family rather than through traditional financial institutions. It is the first friends-and-family funding network for small-business entrepreneurs. Using the Internet-based service, entrepreneurs connect with their social networks - friends, family, friends of family, colleagues, and others - to raise capital, and entrepreneurs can share their fundraising pages on MySpace and Facebook too. 40billion.com’s scalable platform facilitates the funding requests and transactions to make it easier for an entrepreneur to manage many investors, who can provide $50 to $10,000 each.

Great! Let me know How I can help. The idea you have is a very good idea. Not everyone is on the internet. It is said that about 60% of American's don't have a inernet service nor a computer.

Why go with a 800 number at this time? You can start with your phone number. hmm, I have more ideas. Let talk.

Good luck, let me know how I can help.

Great advice on a home business startup....I've been harboring an idea for a long time I titled myself to become a "neighborhood navigator" of sorts where I and any helper agents/operators can be Live internet-assisted city/state navigators for commuters  and travellers. SOmeone suggested I apply for a government startup loan for small businesses, but it costs to get the documents unless i've looked in the wrong places.  I now have the idea to extend the service into any information drivers or persons without the internet need to have looked up immediately. I still intend to get it going, but Im waiting for one of these interviews to turn up something then invest much of it into getting started. I already have the computer and the phone...I just need Hi-speed and an 800 number and the means at first to cover keeping it and keeping up with advertising, promotions, and demand.  Your business consultant service will really come in handy so you haven't heard the last of me.
